Deadline for submission is 31st August 2006.

Authors are invited to submit a short paper (max 15 pages) describing a piece of research or design that they have been involved in that required a novel application of hydraulic principles. The paper may have been written for another purpose, such as, a project report or conference paper. The paper should include a description of the problem solved; its context within engineering and scientific endeavour; the hydraulic principles applied; and, the element of novelty in their application.

The competition is open to scientists and engineers working in any sector; academic, commercial or government sectors, but the candidate must be less than 30.

The prize will be awarded to the paper demonstrating the greatest degree of novelty in the application of hydraulic principles.  This will be decided by a judging panel nominated by the IAHR UK Section Committee.

Entrants will be required to give a brief presentation of their paper at the UK Section AGM at the University of Leeds on the 29 September 2006. Prizes will be awarded to the winners following the presentations.
