[FRMRC] Flood Risk Management Research Consortium: Vision Statement

by Hamish Harvey last modified 2006-03-28 17:23

The EPSRC, in collaboration with the DEFRA/Environment Agency Joint R&D programme on Flood and Coastal Defence, the Natural Environment Research Council, the Scottish Executive and UKWIR, intend to provide more than £5M over the next four years to establish and support the work of a Flood-Risk Management Research Consortium (FRMRC).

Future flood prediction, prevention and mitigation measures must be based on sound science, and to this end FRMRC will conduct research in leading UK universities, consultancies and research institutes. It will deliver tools and guidance useful to flooding practitioners in the short term, as well as strengthening the UK science and engineering base in flood research for the longer term. The multidisciplinary challenges of the research are reflected in the diverse array of participants, ranging from cutting-edge academia to high-profile organisations such as the RSPB, water companies, the Welsh Assembly and the Met Office.

The FRMRC and its funders have decided to make available their Vision Statement document for the scrutiny of their peers and other interested parties. Should you wish to comment on any part of the work programme, please contact either the academic lead, Professor Ian Cluckie, or the relevant priority area lead.
